Kathe and Ragnar Steene Endowment

Former professor and chair of the Department Birgitta Steene established this endowment in honor of her parents Kathe and Ragnar Steene of Uddevalla, Sweden. Its purpose is to provide research support to senior undergraduate or graduate students in Scandinavian Drama and Film at the University of Washington.

Applicants should have demonstrated a serious interest in Scandinavian culture, especially in the areas of Danish and Swedish film, theatre or television history. Support may be in the form of travel stipends or other ways of obtaining relevant research material. Projects involving Senior Essay, M.A. thesis or Ph.D. dissertation in the designated areas should be given preference.

Interested students should submit a statement of educational objectives, a description of the research project as it applies to the purposes of the Steene Endowment. Application should also include a current transcript and two letters of recommendation, one of which should be from outside the Department of Scandinavian Studies. The award amount is up to $1,500.
