We were saddened to learn that Honorary Consul of Norway Kim Nesselquist passed away on the morning of Friday, Dec. 7. Kim was a great friend of the UW Scandinavian Studies Department, and we will miss him very much. Norway’s Ambassador to the US his excellency Kåre Aas wrote, “Norway has lost a champion. Kim’s warm spirit will live on through his family, his legacy and the Norwegian-American community.” Kim was a long-time member of the Scandinavian Studies Department Advisory Board, and also played a key role in bringing Norwegian dignitaries to the UW and Seattle over the years. On November 8th, a special celebration was held honoring Kim and announcing the renaming of one of our endowments as the Consul Kim Nesselquist Norwegian-American Community Endowed Fund. The department will be forever grateful for his advocacy and contribution to the department.

In lieu of flowers, his family encourages contributions in Kim’s memory to organizations close to Kim’s heart. Kim's funeral will be Monday, December 17, 4:00 pm at the Nordic Museum.
