or MWF (LATV 111 - 3 credits)

This course is designed for anyone who wants to learn the basics of the Latvian language through the prism of Latvian culture. Language learning in the course is closely tied to learning about the Latvian culture and to your own personal experiences. First in a sequence of three.

The lectures will provide basic knowledge of spoken and written language, oral practice for various everyday situations, and essential grammatical structures, including articles, nouns, pronouns, verbs, prepositions, and expressions.  The learning process will be enhanced through group work and the use of audio-visual tools.

For language enthusiasts, diving into Latvian offers not only the chance to communicate with locals during travels, but also a gateway to appreciate the poetry, literature, and vibrant traditions woven into the fabric of Latvian society. So, whether you're drawn by cultural curiosity, professional aspirations, or simply a love for languages, delving into Latvian opens up a world of linguistic beauty and cultural wonders - this is a perfect course for you!
