Congratulations to Kevin Jenson who earned the Masters of Arts degree in Scandinavian language and literature this Spring quarter 2015 with Danish language as the target language, and with a secondary emphasis in music, specifically Danish Jazz history. In order to earn the MA degree, Kevin successfully completed  written and oral MA exams, under the supervision of Professor Marianne Stecher. Professor of Music, Bertil von Boern, of Western Washington University also served on the committee as well as Professor Nestingen.  In addition to numerous graduate courses over the past 2 years, including seminars in Scandinavian poetry and prose, literary theory, teaching methodology, and intensive German for reading knowledge.  A fluent speaker of Danish, Kevin served as Teaching Assistant in Danish bringing excellence to the 1st-year Danish language language classes, where he  inspired his students to study in Denmark and to participate in local Danish community events.  Most recently Kevin initiated with his students a Danish conversation group (Fredagscafe), which meets monthly, in collaboration with the Northwest Danish Association.  Not least, Kevin was an active participant in departmental teacher training sessions where he served as an inspiration to other teaching assistants.

In addition to graduate studies at the UW, Kevin keeps a busy schedule as an avid Jazz musician, singer and trombonist who performs regularly.  Best of luck in your future endeavors, Kevin!
