Former Department Ph.D. Graduate Mia Spangenberg's Most Recent Translation!

Submitted by Stacey Breitberg on

Our Department is so pleased to let you all know that one of our former graduates, Mia Spangenberg, has an event at Third Place Books in Ravenna on June 10th to discuss the recent release of Pirkko Saisio's novel 'Backlight', which she translated from Finnish.

See Third Place Books' event information:

In Backlight, the Finlandia Prize-winning author looks backward and inward, once again emerging, in Mia Spangenberg’s sensitive translation, with an intimate portrait of a life lived in language.

Third Place Books is pleased to welcome back translator Mia Spangenberg to our Ravenna store for a presentation on her recent translation of Finnish author Pirkko Saiso's novel Backlight, which follows a frustrated teenager into adulthood as she grapples with her queerness and her potential as a writer. Mia will be joined in conversation by translator and publishing consultant Elizabeth DeNoma.

This event is free and open to the public. For important updates, RSVP is highly recommended in advance. This event will include a public signing and time for audience Q&A. Sustain our author series by purchasing a copy of the featured book!

When you RSVP to one of our free events during the month of June, we invite you to add a donation to The Queer Trans Project, a Black-led, trans-led nonprofit organization dedicated to providing life-changing gender-affirming resources, uplifting trans voices, and building power for our communities.
