Ph.D. student Liina-Ly Roos has received the Nadia Christensen Award for Excellence in Nordic Studies for 2016-2017. Roos's Ph.D. dissertation has the working title "The Child in Contemporary North and East European Imagination: War and Crisis of the Everyday." The award includes a grant of $4,000. It is awarded annually by the Department of Scandinavian Studies. The Nadia Christensen Endowment for Excellence in Nordic Studies was established through a generous grant from the Hognander Family Foundation of Minneapolis, Minnesota, in honor of Dr. Nadia Christensen, a Ph.D. graduate of the University of Washington. The award is given annually to a graduate student in the department based on excellent scholarship and academic performance as well as outstanding achievement in teaching and service.
