Visiting Associate Professor Anna Estera Mrozewicz

Dr. Anna Estera Mrozewicz is a Scandinavianist and Associate Professor in the Department of Film, Media and Audiovisual Arts at Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań, Poland, and Senior Lecturer in Film Studies at the University of Lund, Sweden. She is spending the academic year of 2021–22 at the Department as a Visiting Fulbright Scholar and Associate Professor, with a research project entitled Eco-Seriality. Environmental Imaginations and Ecological Crisis in Contemporary Nordic and American Television Series. During the Spring term, Professor Mrozewicz is teaching a course titled “Nature and Ecology in Nordic Cinema and Television”. During this course, the students will discuss and analyze the most eminent films, figures, themes, and genres in the cinematic and televisual cultures of this region, with a focus on nature and ecology. The topics include: Lars von Trier’s eco-melancholia, nature and female power, snow and white masculinity in Norwegian horrors, Norwegian petro-guilt, eco-noir television series, Arctic noir, the dark ecology of the welfare states, Sámi cinema and the landscapes of Sápmi, animals in Icelandic films, ecocritical takes on Swedish forest imagery, and more.
