This coming Saturday, September 9th, the National Nordic Museum will be hosting a panel discussion on the topic of Bringing Nordic Children's Literature to an English Readership. But the most exciting part? It will involve not one, not two, but THREE UW Scandinavian Studies alumni and/or Emeritus Professors!
The panelists are Laura Simeon, alumna Mia Spangenberg, Professor Emerita Lotta Gavel Adams, and moderated by alumna Elizabeth DeNoma.
You can register for this (free!) panel here: https://nordicmuseum.org/events/nordic-childrens-lit
Pippi Longstocking and the Moomins continue to be favorites among English readers young and old. In this panel discussion, we will cover some of the aspects that make Nordic children's literature unique as well as the challenges and opportunities for bringing Nordic children's literature to English language audiences in the current publishing climate. This event is part of World Kid Lit Month -- https://worldkidlit.wordpress.com/what-is-world-kid-lit-month/ -- which takes place every September and celebrates world literature and translation for children and young adults.
*Please note this is not a children's program.
This promises to be a fantastic event, as well as a great way to see what sorts of opportunities studying with our department can offer you!
We hope to see you all there!
