Danish Program Holiday Letter

Submitted by Stacey Breitberg on

Our warmest holiday greetings to friends, alumni, and supporters! Glædelig jul og godt nytår!

It has been an exceptional year for the Danish program!

First of all, our heartfelt gratitude to our long-standing supporters, the Pedersens. The Georg and Nina Pedersen Endowed Professorship in Danish Studies has now been established.  We plan a community celebration of this milestone in Spring 2025 on VE Day (May 8th).

Secondly, a grant from the ScanDesign Foundation allowed us to organize speaker series during Fall quarter, as part of our undergraduate class: Danish Literary and Cultural History. With lectures ranging on topics from the Jelling Stone to Georg Brandes and Asta Nielsen, six extraordinary scholars gave guest lectures, sharing their expertise with our students.

We are thrilled to see our students put their language skills to use.  Two of our UW Danish students, Saoirse Boyter and Kevin Locher, are now pursuing graduate studies in Denmark (at CBS and U of Copenhagen) having completed our language program. Eventually, they will bring their expertise back to the USA.

We thank you for your continued support of the Danish program at UW!

Vi ønsker jer alle en glædelig jul og et lykkebringende 2025!

 De bedste julehilsener,

Marianne Stecher-Hansen & Morten Bøje Stensgaard Larsen
